Talk About Teddy - Theodore Roosevelt Podcast

Kurt and Larry discuss the Theodore Roosevelt Association with TRA President & Chairman Gregory Wynn.

https://www.theodoreroosevelt.org/  The Theodore Roosevelt Association is a historical and public service organization dedicated to perpetuating the memory and ideals of Theodore Roosevelt. In addition to their journal, the TRA also holds a number of materials including audio and video, both from Theodore Roosevelt's time and of how he is remembered in the modern era.

Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal   - Issues of the Journal are presented here as text-searchable PDFs, both of full issues and of specific articles. Numbering over 1,700 items, these will be published in five-year blocks as they become available.  The Theodore Roosevelt Association Journal has been continually published since 1975, and has addressed all sorts of issues relating to Theodore Roosevelt, from historiography to pop culture. The Journal additionally serves as a piece of history in and of itself by tracing the recent development and activities of the Theodore Roosevelt Association--a long-respected organization dedicated to perpetuating the memory and ideals of Theodore Roosevelt.

Gregory A. Wynn Theodore Roosevelt Sheet Music Collection

Gregory A. Wynn was introduced to Theodore Roosevelt in his teens, and he soon became a serious TR student and collector. Among his personal collection, Wynn holds more than 130 pieces of sheet music written between 1893 and 1941, dedicated to TR or to members of his family (e.g. Alice and Ted, Jr.). Theodore Roosevelt’s prominence in the American consciousness of the times is clear from the variety, color, and number of these marches, songs, and rags.

Gregory A. Wynn's comments about this collection may be found here.

This collection was digitized with the cooperation of the staff at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. The sheet music was digitized and cataloged on site at Sagamore Hill and then received by digital library staff. Click here to view items from this collection in the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library.

Note: The Theodore Roosevelt Center has not only digitized the sheet music but, with partial funding from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, has also recorded several of these selections. The audio files appear as separate records in the Dickinson State University collection. Search for the audio files with "Dickinson State University audio" or look for them in the "Related Digital Library Items" area.

Greg's TRA Journal article on Edward Curtis  (Volume XXXV, Numbers 1 & 2, Winter-Spring 2014)                                                                                            Gregory A. Wynn explores the life of American photographer Edward S. Curtis who photographed Theodore Roosevelt's family in 1904 and 1905. Wynn argues that Curtis's 1904 portrait "is the single best studio photograph" of Roosevelt. Wynn details Curtis's decades long struggle to photograph, write, and produce his multi-volume The North American Indian, and he highlights the roles played by Roosevelt and J. Pierpont Morgan in promoting and financing the project. In an addendum to his essay, Wynn notes that the Roosevelt collection of his friend Peter Scanlan came to auction, and he highlights the sale of pieces that have been featured in previous editions of his material culture column.
